The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education in Sierra Leone has issued a stern warning against fraudulent scholarship advertisements circulating on social media platforms.
The Ministry has recently discovered that fake accounts, impersonating government officials, including the current Minister of Technical and Higher Education, have been promoting non-existent scholarships on Facebook.
In an official press release, the Ministry denounced the scam as “completely frivolous” and emphasized that such deceptive acts constitute criminal behavior. Officials from the Ministry are prepared to take appropriate legal actions against the individuals responsible for this fraudulent activity.
To ensure accurate and reliable information regarding scholarships, the Ministry urged aspiring students to verify announcements exclusively through official channels. These include the Ministry’s verified Facebook page, the official website at www.mthe.gov.sl, the Twitter account @techhigheredu, or by directly contacting the Ministry Headquarters located at Sababu Building, New England Ville, Freetown.
The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education remains committed to ensuring the welfare of students and promoting transparency in all its endeavors. As Sierra Leone aims to provide quality educational opportunities, the Ministry continues to be vigilant against scams that exploit the aspirations of young learners.
