Freetown, 12 June 2026 – Police officers attached to the Freetown West Region have arrested thirty-nine pupils from various educational institutions, including Collegiate School, Prince of Wales Secondary School, Albert Academy, National Pentecostal School, and the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM).
The arrests were made in separate incidents that culminated on Friday, 12 June 2026, along the Zonta By-Pass Road, Brookfields, between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
The pupils were apprehended for allegedly engaging in riotous conduct that caused public alarm and fear among residents. All suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue.
According to the Regional Police Command, similar incidents involving pupils from Albert Academy and Prince of Wales Secondary School were recorded last year. These incidents were reportedly linked to social interactions among students, which occasionally escalated into disorderly and disruptive behaviour, raising concerns about public safety and order.
In response to the recurring incidents, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sylvester M. N. Koroma visited Albert Academy and Prince of Wales Secondary School, where he admonished both pupils and teachers and urged them to promote discipline and peaceful coexistence in order to reduce tensions among school-going children.
AIG Koroma also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s activities and provide proper guidance to help shape a brighter future for them. He stressed that the unruly conduct displayed by some students is increasingly unacceptable and detrimental to societal harmony.
Furthermore, AIG Koroma stated that any suspect found culpable following the ongoing investigations will be charged to court on Monday, 15 June 2026, for riotous conduct and other related public order offences.
He expressed hope that the action taken by the police would serve as a deterrent to other pupils who may contemplate engaging in similar disruptive behaviour.
