Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources (MMMR) and the National Minerals Agency (NMA), has denounced reports of alleged lithium exports from the country.
In a press release dated September 24th, 2024, the ministry addressed recent publications claiming that a company named Elektros (OTC PINK: ELEK) had shipped lithium from Sierra Leone.
The MMMR clarified that there is no mining company by the name of Elektros operating in Sierra Leone. Additionally, the ministry confirmed that Elektros has neither applied for nor received a mining license in the country. As such, the claims of lithium exports made in the media are deemed fraudulent.
No mining company has exported lithium from Sierra Leone, according to the statement.
The NMA, which oversees mineral exploration and production activities, confirmed that while there are companies exploring lithium, none has yet commenced production.
Expressing concern over the false information spread through various media channels, including the Gleaner Newspaper and Yahoo Finance, the Ministry urged the public, especially journalists and mining investors, to verify all mineral export claims with the NMA before engaging in any business.
In conclusion, the MMMR and NMA advised the public to refrain from conducting any mining-related business with Elektros and emphasized the importance of verifying all claims concerning mineral exports to avoid fraud.
