In an unannounced visit to the Siaka Stevens Stadium last week, the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, accompanied by her Deputy Minister Kai Lawrence Mbayo, assessed the progress of ongoing rehabilitation work.
The visit aimed to ensure that the rehabilitation efforts align with FIFA standards, with a particular focus on the installation of plastic seats in the open stands. The inspection also sought to verify progress towards meeting the deadline for the stadium’s completion.
During the inspection, various facilities including the main bowl, Presidential Stands, scoreboard, swimming pool, hotel accommodations, practice fields, volleyball court, basketball court, and lawn tennis court were reviewed.
Boson, the head of the technical team overseeing the project, provided a detailed update on completed tasks and remaining work. He assured the Minister and her Deputy that the team is committed to delivering a modernized stadium on schedule as promised to the government.
In response, Madam Minister James-Teima expressed gratitude on behalf of President H.E Julius Maada Bio and the government for the progress made within the year. She emphasized the President’s keen interest in the stadium’s rehabilitation and expressed hope that the team would meet the project’s deadlines.
Special thanks was given to the stadium workers led by Stadium Manager Paul Dambulay and Deputy Manager Alfred Tucker, commending their collaboration with the Chinese Technical Team. The Minister highlighted the importance of continued unity to ensure the successful completion of the rehabilitation.
“I am impressed with the reports on the progress so far,” Madam Minister stated. “I hope and pray that you will live up to the expectations of our government and the people of Sierra Leone.”
The Chinese Technical Team and the stadium management warmly received the Minister and her Deputy Minister during their visit.
Madam Augusta James-Teima concluded by promising another visit to monitor the project’s progress, extending her blessings to all involved in the stadium’s rehabilitation.
