Sierra Leone National Team Head Coach, Amidu Karim, has announced disciplinary action against several players who were seen at a nightclub in Monrovia just hours after their goalless draw against Chad in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
The incident occurred at the Calabash nightclub, sparking outrage among fans who expected a more focused response following the team’s lackluster performance.
“These are the same players that will be traveling to Zambia today for match day 2 of the AFCON qualifiers,” remarked sports journalist PA Alie Sesay, reflecting the concerns of many Sierra Leonean football supporters. “What does the future hold for Sierra Leone football?”
Despite the controversy, the Leone Stars delegation has departed Liberia for Zambia, where they are set to face the Zambian team on Tuesday, September 10th, 2024. After that they will play against defending champions Ivory Coast in October, in the continuation of their AFCON qualifying campaign.
The qualifiers set the stage for the teams aiming to lift the coveted trophy in Morocco between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026.
Sierra Leone last secured a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations in the 2021 edition hosted in Cameroon, after a 25 years hiatus.
I very proud of this 👏❤💜🙌
