Freetown, Sierra Leone – A four-story building in the SS Camp area on the hills above Freetown collapsed last night due to a heavy downpour. Community volunteers worked tirelessly through the night, using their bare hands to rescue trapped individuals.
The rescue effort continues today with the aid of an excavator that arrived this morning.
Inspector Lamish, a volunteer, reported that two people had been successfully rescued, and efforts were underway to pull out a third person.
He estimated that at least seven individuals were still trapped beneath the debris.
John Rogers, the deputy head of the disaster management agency, confirmed that their team, along with the army, police, and Red Cross, had reached the site and were actively participating in the rescue operations.
No fatalities have been confirmed at this time.
