Mustapha Bai Atilla, a former Minister of Social Welfare, Gender, and Children’s Affairs, is facing serious accusations of domestic violence against his wife, Monica Yenni Galiwa.
Monica, who is visually impaired, is a well-known broadcast journalist and advocate for youth and disability rights. Recently, she gained further recognition as the second runner-up in AYV Housemates Salone. She gave birth to twins less than two months ago.
Reports surfaced on social media alleging that Monica had been confined to their home under strict security measures, reportedly at her husband’s command. The accusations include claims of both physical and psychological abuse inflicted by Atilla.
The case has sparked widespread concern, with Monica’s friends and family expressing deep fears for her safety and that of her newborns.
The situation was brought to public attention by the Hawanatu Konneh Network, a move that catalyzed swift action from authorities.
Responding to the reports, Minister Mahoi and law enforcement authorities intervened promptly.
Early this morning, police officers conducted a successful operation, ensuring that Monica and her babies were safely removed from the residence. Minister Mahoi praised the police for their timely and professional response, which ensured the safety of the mother and her children.
This incident is one of several recent domestic violence cases that have shocked the nation. Just last week, Sia Fatu Kamara, an employee of the Freetown City Council, was allegedly beaten to death by her boyfriend, Abdul Kpaka.
