The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has announced planned power cuts from Wednesday 12 August to Friday 14 August 2026 to allow critical works on the NANT Power Project.
The interruptions will take place daily from 9:00 a.m. as engineers convert the Blackhall Road–Ropoti 33kV line into an underground cable system. The existing overhead line currently crosses the NANT project site at Kissy and must be relocated to make way for the new plant.
Once completed, the underground cable will serve as the permanent feeder linking the Blackhall Road and Ropoti substations. The works form part of efforts to connect the 108.4MW NANT Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant to the national grid.
EDSA says the project will significantly boost Sierra Leone’s generation capacity and improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply across the country.
The authority has assured the public that essential services will remain powered during the shutdowns. These include Jui Hospital and the Government Hospital at Rokupa.
Customers and communities along the Portee to Waterloo corridor will be the main ones affected.
EDSA expressed regret for any inconvenience the interruptions may cause and appealed for the public’s patience and understanding as the country works to expand and strengthen its power infrastructure.
