A 22-year-old man has died three days after his reported arrest in Freetown, according to his family, who are calling for a transparent investigation into the circumstances of his death.
Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, a resident of No. 1E Farreh Lane, Grant Lane, Mount Aureol, was reportedly arrested on 3 August 2026 and died on 6 August.
Family members and residents stated that Kamara and another young man were detained by an Operational Support Division officer identified as Joseph Lamin. The arrests were linked to accusations involving tramadol and the alleged theft of two mobile phones.
Relatives said Kamara had recently received medical treatment and was purchasing pap to take with his medication at the time of the arrest.
The family reported difficulty locating him following the detention and were later informed of his death at Kingtom Police Hospital.
A community safety volunteer identified as B.B.C. said he was called to the scene after reports of a warning shot and found the two suspects already handcuffed.
Kamara’s parents, Abdul Aziz Kamara and Mamusu Kamara, have called for a full investigation into their son’s arrest and death.
