In a briefing on Tuesday, the Director of Sierra Leone’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), David Borbor, disclosed to journalists that his agency has successfully frozen a sum of Le3.4 million (Le3.4 billion Old) from a money laundering organization identified as “Super Advertis.”
Director Borbor clarified that Super Advertis has no legal affiliation with Orange mobile company or Sierra Leone Commercial Bank.
He explained that upon discovering the existence of the money laundering organization on social media, the FIU swiftly initiated an online investigation in collaboration with other institutions in the country. During their probe, they identified 30 agents associated with Super Advertis, leading to the freezing of Le3.4 million.
Director Borbor revealed that Super Advertis is Chinese-owned, although the specific identity of the Chinese owner was not disclosed.
Recalling a previous investigation, Director Borbor mentioned the FIU’s involvement in uncovering another financial scam company known as “MY COIN” in 2017. During that investigation, a total of 6 billion was frozen and later disbursed to 424 people who had claimed as victims during that period in Sierra Leone.
