September 19th, 2024 – The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has released an update on the ongoing rescue efforts at the site of the collapsed seven-storey building at Shell New Road.
Total Recovered: 23 individuals
Fatalities:
– 15 confirmed dead:
– 5 adult males
– 5 adult females
– 2 girls under the age of 5
– 3 boys under the age of 5
Survivors:
– 8 people have been rescued:
– 2 adult females
– 3 adult males
– 2 boys under the age of 5
– 1 teenage girl
Five of the survivors are currently receiving treatment at Rokupa Hospital, while three have been transferred to Choithram Hospital for advanced care.
Trapped Victims:
The exact number of individuals still trapped remains unknown. Neighbors and eyewitnesses report that more people may be buried beneath the debris. Rescue teams continue to make progress, clearing rubble to reach lower floors where more victims are believed to be located.
In support of the ongoing efforts, Sierra Rutile Limited has joined the rescue operation by providing fuel and environmental safety experts. The NDMA has also extended its appreciation to the Gento Group of Companies for supplying machinery and fuel since the start of the operation.
The NDMA remains fully committed to the search and rescue mission, expressing deep gratitude to the rescue teams and community volunteers for their tireless efforts. The focus remains on recovering any remaining individuals trapped under the rubble.
