In a landmark decision, the Court of Appeal in Sierra Leone, led by Hon. Justice Fatmatta Bintu Alhadi, has ruled against former President Ernest Bai Koroma in a case against the Commission of Inquiry (COI).
The court unanimously dismissed Koroma’s seven grounds of appeal, culminating in a significant financial penalty.
The judgment mandates Koroma to refund a staggering amount, including $70,294,264,506,523 Leones, $3 million USD, and $12,263,821 USD.
The court asserts that these funds must be paid into Sierra Leone’s Consolidated Revenue Fund within 30 days, emphasizing its commitment to justice and financial accountability.
However, the legal saga takes a political twist, suggesting Koroma’s alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow President Bio on November 26, 2023.
This revelation adds complexity to the situation, highlighting the volatile political climate surrounding the former president.
