Freetown, Sierra Leone – 14th December, 2023 – The Acting Auditor-General of Sierra Leone announced today, “The Audit Report on the Accounts of Sierra Leone for the year ended 31st December, 2022, has been officially presented to Parliament on Thursday, 14th December, 2023.”
Citing constitutional obligations, the Auditor-General emphasized, “Section 119(2) of the 1991 Constitution mandates the audit of Public Accounts, covering various entities such as courts, central and local government administrations, universities, and statutory corporations funded by public funds.”
“In adherence to Section 119(4) of the Constitution,” the Auditor-General stated, “the report, highlighting irregularities and pertinent matters, will be submitted to Parliament within twelve months of the preceding financial year’s conclusion.”
The Acting Auditor-General affirmed the commitment of the Audit Service Sierra Leone, stating, “The ASSL will persist in its role as a leading audit organization, fostering excellence and accountability in public institutions. Following parliamentary review, the comprehensive report will be made available to the public on the Audit Service Sierra Leone website.”
