In a historic move towards national unity, the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) and the All Peoples Congress Party (APC) have announced a groundbreaking resolution.
This announcement was made in a press statement signed by Solomon Jamiru Esq. Press Secretary Office of the President.
The mediated ‘Agreement for National Unity’ has given rise to a pivotal decision—the formation of a Cross Party Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review, led by a three-way leadership structure.
Following extensive negotiations, the APC is set to nominate up to seven members for this crucial Committee. President Brig. Rtd. Dr. Julius Maada Bio has not only accepted these nominations but also ensured a diverse and inclusive representation of stakeholders within the Committee.
To kickstart the operationalization of this significant Committee, President Julius Maada Bio will officiate a formal Launch ceremony at State House on Tuesday, 21st November 2023, at 4:00 pm.
The launch will feature statements from representatives of development partners, the APC, and the GoSL.
The launch event signifies the initiation of the review process for electoral systems and management bodies.
This transparent and open approach aims to keep the public informed about the commitment of the involved parties to implement the resolutions outlined in the ‘Agreement for National Unity,’ signed at the Bintumani Hotel on Wednesday, 18th October 2023.
