Freetown, Sierra Leone – President Julius Maada Bio on Wednesday formally accepted the Letter of Credence from His Excellency Zhao Yong, the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sierra Leone, officially marking the start of the ambassador’s diplomatic mission in the country.
During the credentials presentation ceremony at State House, President Bio described the event as an honour and reaffirmed the deep-rooted and friendly relations between Sierra Leone and China.
The President expressed profound gratitude to the Chinese government and its people for their longstanding friendship, cooperation, and substantial development assistance over the decades, highlighting the significant impact of this partnership on Sierra Leone’s socio-economic advancement.
“Our two nations have enjoyed a strong and enduring relationship, for which the people of Sierra Leone remain sincerely grateful,” President Bio stated.
Looking ahead, the Head of State voiced optimism about expanding bilateral cooperation, expressing confidence that Ambassador Zhao Yong’s tenure would further strengthen ties in critical sectors such as infrastructure development, trade, investment, health, education, and technical cooperation.
“I look forward to further enhancing our cooperation as you commence your tenure. You are most welcome to Sierra Leone,” the President added.
The ceremony underscores the ongoing commitment of both nations to bolstering diplomatic relations and pursuing shared interests for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
