A serving corporal of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Joseph Lamin Stevens, has been remanded in custody in connection with the alleged killing of a fellow military officer following a dispute reportedly involving 100 United States dollars.
Stevens, whose service number is 18181456, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, where he was formally charged with one count of murder.
The charge is brought under the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, as revised by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act, 2021.
Court records indicate that the alleged incident took place on 26 November 2025 at the Presidential Lodge, Freetown International Airport in Lungi, within the Port Loko Judicial District.
Prosecutors allege that Stevens fatally assaulted his colleague, Moses Brima Kabba, during an altercation.
Due to the serious nature of the charge, no plea was entered. The accused was, however, provided with relevant court documents to enable him to prepare his defence.
State Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Mansaray, applied for an adjournment on the grounds that prosecution witnesses were not available.
Magistrate Jah granted the application and ordered that Stevens be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The matter has been adjourned to 13 January 2026 for further hearing.
