Shocking revelations emerged during the ongoing court martial proceedings as Staff Sergeant (Sgt.) Alhaji Koroma testified against Captain Senessie, alleging promises of bribery and involvement in arms trafficking.
In a dramatic courtroom scene, Sgt. Koroma, already convicted and serving a 30-year sentence for his role in a failed coup, detailed his involvement in the alleged coup attempt of November 26, 2023, in Freetown.
Led in examination by Ahmed Bockarie, the twenty-ninth prosecution witness, Koroma unveiled a web of intrigue and betrayal.
Detailing his long military service, Koroma described being approached by Captain Senessie, who allegedly promised him three thousand Leones to transport arms and ammunition from Barmoi Luna Tongowala township to Kambia town.
Koroma, attached to the eleventh Battalion in Kambia District, confessed to having command over ten men and various military equipment, including AK-47 ammunition.
Koroma’s testimony implicated high-ranking military officials, including Captain Jalloh and the elusive Captain Senessie, who allegedly orchestrated the illicit operation.
Despite assurances of safety from Justice Komba Kamanda and the Director of Public Prosecution, Koroma recounted facing coercion and threats to comply with the illegal scheme.
The narrative unfolded with exchanges of money and clandestine meetings, culminating in a harrowing journey to transport weapons under the cover of darkness.
Koroma described a chilling encounter with a herbalist and rituals conducted to fortify the group against bullets.
However, the operation took a dark turn when violence erupted at the Joint Logistics Unit (JLU), resulting in casualties and Koroma’s arrest. He recounted being tortured and coerced into a confession, shedding light on the chaos and fear that gripped Freetown during the alleged coup attempt.
As the courtroom buzzed with anticipation, Koroma’s testimony provided a rare glimpse into the shadowy world of military intrigue and corruption. With all accused persons remanded in custody, the case adjourned, leaving the nation gripped by the unfolding drama and uncertainty.
