The Regional Police Commander for Freetown West, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sylvester M.N. Koroma, on Saturday, 2nd May 2026, held a high-level engagement with authorities of Fourah Bay College (FBC) following recent unrest on campus at Leicester Village.
The meeting comes in the wake of disturbances that occurred on Friday, 1st May 2026, when a series of attacks allegedly carried out by students resulted in the destruction of property and injuries to several individuals.
In a proactive effort to address the situation and seek a lasting solution to the recurring challenges at the institution, AIG Koroma convened a constructive dialogue with key members of the college administration. Among those in attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Baio; the Deputy Registrar, Mr. Brima Bah; and the Warden of Students, Mr. Fareed Bangura, among other senior staff.
Speaking during the meeting, Deputy Registrar Mr. Ibrahim Bah expressed deep concern over the institution’s recent negative publicity. He urged collective action among staff to address the unfortunate incident, noting that it has significantly tarnished the image of Fourah Bay College.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor also voiced strong concern, describing the incident as not only an attack on students but on the institution’s authority as a whole. He further lamented the lack of timely communication from staff regarding the situation and emphasized the need for stricter administrative measures to enhance campus security moving forward.
Other staff members, including the Wardens of Students, provided accounts of the incident and outlined steps already taken in response.
In his remarks, AIG Koroma assured the college authorities of the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. He called on the administration to support the investigation by providing credible information, particularly relating to individuals or leaders of student clubs suspected to be involved in the violence.
The meeting concluded with key resolutions, including the immediate suspension of all club activities on campus. Additionally, the student elections scheduled for 23rd May 2026 will be reviewed, with plans to implement enhanced security measures to ensure a safe and orderly process.
