The Legal Aid Board (LAB) has secured the discharge of two accused persons who were arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravation from a Freetown High Court presided over by Honourable Justice Amy Wright.
The two, Alusine Bilo Kamara and Alhassan Bilo Kamara who happen to be twins, have been in court since December 2023 defending themselves against a one-count charge each of conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravation.
The two were released on Tuesday, 4 March 2025 for want of prosecution after spending one year and three months on remand since making their first appearance at the Magistrate Court at Waterloo.
The Executive Director of the Board, Ms. Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles, in her usual post discharge briefing welcomed their release by the court.
She admonished the duo to eschew crime as the Board will be constrained to provide legal representation to repeated offenders. She urged them to go back to their communities and contribute to its wellbeing.
She assured the general public of the Board’s continued commitment to expanding access to justice as it gears up to celebrate its Tenth Anniversary in May 2025.
Speaking at the LAB head office in Freetown, the duo maintained their innocence, noting they had no hands in the theft of the motorbike. They thanked the Board and its Executive Director for the legal assistance and legal representation since their arrest in respect of the matter.
The accused persons were represented by Legal Aid Counsel, Cyril Taylor-Younge.
In related development, the Board has also secured the discharge of two accused persons from the Magistrate Court in Freetown presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura. The two, Mohamed Kamara and Alhaji Bangura were freed on one count charge of fraudulent conversion and larceny, respectively. Both were represented by Counsel Mustapha Dauda.
