In a landmark decision, eleven individuals standing trial for treason in Sierra Leone have been found guilty.
The convicted include Amadu Koita Makalo, Mohamed Jalloh, Sgt. Mohamed Sallue Kamara, Ramatu Kanda Conteh, Alimatu Hassan Bangura, Hassan Leigh, Mohamed Wurrie, ASP Ibrahim Sesay, Tamba Yamba, Kabba Kamara, and Abdul Sorie Hassan Kamara.
The jury pronounced the accused guilty on multiple counts, specifically Counts 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20. The verdicts on Counts 13 and 14 remain pending, as they pertain to Bai Mamoud Bangura, who is currently out on bail.
These individuals faced charges of treason and other serious offenses linked to an alleged coup attempt on November 26, 2023.
Authorities have described the plot as a significant threat to national stability.
