In the early hours of Friday, August 2, 2024, disaster struck at Alpha Terrace, Calaba Town, when two houses collapsed, resulting in the deaths of four people and critically injuring seven others.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred around 4:00 am. Among the deceased are a nursing mother with her baby and two other children. The injured are currently receiving urgent medical treatment.
Family members of the victims have voiced their grief and frustration, claiming that the collapse was inevitable due to the lack of structural support in the fence surrounding the houses. They allege that the fence was built without necessary pillars, compromising its integrity.
In a further twist, the family members accuse the property owner of calling the police when they sought answers regarding the tragedy.
They also claim that the police are demanding Le2,000 for the release of each body for burial, which they urgently need as Muslims.
The grieving families have called on the government for immediate assistance.
