Freetown, 13th September 2024 – The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has confirmed that its headquarters on Kissy Road was raided on Thursday, 12th September 2024, by the Scorpion Squad of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The raid followed a report from the Internal Audit Department, which indicated alleged fraudulent activities involving some system operators in the Licenses Department.
According to the SLRSA, 39 staff members, including system operators, were arrested during the raid. They are currently assisting the ACC in investigating allegations of a system breach that compromised mandatory payments, including income tax and circulation fees, to the National Revenue Authority (NRA).
The alleged fraudulent activities are said to have resulted in a significant loss of revenue from March to August 2024.
In response to the incident, the management of SLRSA has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We assure the general public and the ACC of our unwavering commitment to accountability and zero tolerance for financial impropriety by staff,” stated the management.
The SLRSA emphasizes its dedication to cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
