In a recent public notice, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has raised concerns over the prevalence of government vehicles and motorbikes, belonging to Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), operating on roads without legal authorization.
According to the SLRSA, this practice violates Section 3 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 2007 and Regulation 19 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations 2011.
Furthermore, the authority has noted a significant number of drivers from MDAs and NGOs operating without valid driving licenses, contravening Section 16 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Act 2007.
In response to these infractions, the SLRSA has announced plans to collaborate with the Sierra Leone Police in enforcing regulations against unlicensed vehicles and drivers nationwide. All MDAs and NGOs are urged to rectify the status of their vehicles and driving licenses promptly, as mandated by law.
The SLRSA emphasizes the importance of collective action in fostering a safe environment for all road users.
