Waterloo – The Regional Commander of Freetown-East, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Brima Kanneh, on Tuesday led Commissioner Alhaji Ibrahim Mohamed Sama, popularly known as Delta 1, the Waterloo Divisional Local Unit Commander (LUC), Superintendent Bankolay Mansaray, and other senior police officers on an inspection of three strategic locations within the Waterloo Division earmarked for the proposed establishment of a police station and police posts.
The visit was aimed at assessing the suitability of the proposed sites to strengthen police visibility, expand security coverage and ensure timely responses to the security needs of Waterloo’s growing population.
The team first visited Campbell Town, where they inspected the former Virtues Cottage recreational compound, which has been proposed for lease to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for use as a police station. The team also inspected a plot of land allocated by the Campbell Town community for the construction of a police post.
The delegation subsequently visited Newton Police Post before proceeding to Agriculture Land at Six Mile, where the Estate Officer, Mr Abdul Karim Kamara, presented a proposed building for consideration as a police post.
The proposed facility at Six Mile is expected to improve security coverage in Agriculture Land, Mogbafti, Kpoubu and Kattu Town communities, while easing the operational pressure on existing police stations and posts in the area.
During the visit, concerns were also raised about the provision of rations for Operational Support Division (OSD) personnel deployed at Waterloo Prisons, particularly in comparison with the arrangements for their military counterparts serving at the same location.
In his remarks, AIG Kanneh thanked the team for its efforts and assured members that he would brief the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on the findings and recommendations arising from the visit to facilitate the necessary follow-up action.
