Freetown, May 20, 2025 — The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has issued a strong warning to vehicle owners and drivers who operate their vehicles without properly affixed license and registration number plates.
In a public notice released on Tuesday, the Authority expressed concern over what it described as a growing habit among some motorists who drive without displaying their official vehicle identification plates.
“It has come to the attention of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority that some vehicle owners and drivers are in the habit of driving their vehicles without affixing the Vehicle License and Registration Number Plates,” the notice stated.
According to the SLRSA, this act is not only unlawful but also undermines the work of law enforcement and road safety officials.
“Failure to affix Vehicle License and registration number plates is an offence as enshrined in Section 7 of the Road Traffic Act 2007 and Regulation 27 (3) of the Road Traffic Regulations 2011,” the Authority emphasized.
SLRSA management urged all vehicle operators to comply with the country’s road safety laws.
“We encourage all vehicle operators to abide by the Road Traffic Laws and Regulations,” the statement concluded.
The notice serves as a reminder that defaulters may face legal consequences as the Authority moves to enforce stricter compliance across the country.
