Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) Conrad Sackey has directed Agape School in the Dwazark community to refund all parents who were allegedly charged money before collecting their children’s 2026 NPSE results.
In a statement posted on social media yesterday, the Minister said the school authorities were summoned to his office to answer to the allegations.
He confirmed that the Ministry has resolved that every Leone collected for the release of the results must be returned to the affected parents.
Sackey further ordered the school to issue a clear notice through its PTA channels informing parents that no payment is required to collect the NPSE results. The school has also been told to formally write to the Ministry confirming its position and to ensure the practice does not happen again.
“This is the first time the school has been found in default on this particular matter, and so we have issued a strong warning to the school authorities. But let me be clear: being a first-time default does not make the issue insignificant,” the Minister stated.
He noted that Agape School is located in a hilltop community where many families struggle daily to meet basic needs. “In such a community, even a small additional charge can place a significant burden on parents. We cannot build an education system that continually asks our poorest families to pay more at every step.”
The latest action follows an earlier visit by the Minister himself to the school in the shack-ridden Hills community of Dwazark. Accompanied by the Chief Education Officer and the Free Quality School Education Coordinator, Sackey went to the school after receiving reports that parents were being asked to pay before collecting results.
The school was closed at the time of the visit, but the team met one of the teachers and left a message inviting the Headteacher to report to the Ministry for investigation.
The Minister reminded the public of the Ministry’s warning issued on 28 July 2026 that no school, teacher or school official is authorised to demand money for report cards or examination results.
“I will not sit back and watch anyone put a price on a child’s right to their results,” Sackey declared. “Free Quality School Education means removing financial barriers, not creating new ones.”
Parents who are asked to pay for results are advised to request an official receipt and report the matter immediately on the Ministry’s toll-free line, 8060. Those who have already paid are urged to come forward with evidence.
“Every Leone matters to a struggling family. Every child deserves a fair chance,” the Minister emphasised.
