In the aftermath of a tense confrontation between the Mayor of Kenema City and Peace Ambassador Boss La on May 5th, 2024, the Kenema Police Media Unit has initiated an investigation into the incident.
Inspector Brima James Musa, spokesperson for the police media unit, affirmed the commencement of the investigation, stating, “Our primary concern is to assure the people of Kenema that they can go about their daily business.”
Inspector Musa confirmed the presence of Boss La and his associates at the police station on May 5th to cooperate with the investigation, emphasizing the police’s commitment to thoroughness and transparency.
“We want them to know that once a crime is reported to the police, it becomes our duty to investigate it thoroughly,” Inspector Musa reiterated.
The investigation, centered on allegations of assault on the mayor, his driver, and other police officers at the Wanjama Checkpoint between Bo and Kenema, has gained momentum following a recent audio circulating on social media.
In the audio, the Mayor recounts a harrowing encounter with Boss La’s convoy on the highway, alleging reckless driving and subsequent physical violence initiated by Boss La’s team.
According to the Mayor’s account, efforts to intervene and resolve the situation peacefully were met with verbal abuse, threats, and further aggression from Boss La and his associates.
The Mayor further accuses Boss La’s team of assaulting police officers present at the scene and vandalizing his vehicle, escalating the confrontation to a dangerous level.
In response to allegations of misconduct by police officers, Inspector Musa confirmed their disarmament and placement in custody pending an internal investigation to ensure accountability and adherence to professional standards.
The incident, which reportedly led to the cancellation of Boss La’s planned show in Kenema, has ignited public outrage and drawn attention to the need for swift and impartial justice.
With the Mayor having reported the incident to the Kenema Police and undergone medical examination, the investigation aims to uncover the truth and uphold the rule of law in the face of escalating tensions.
