Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has summoned Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, the 2023 presidential candidate of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), to report to their headquarters on Pademba Road in Freetown.
According to a statement from the Sierra Leone Police, the decision follows a review of multiple audio and video recordings related to electoral justice. In one of the videos, Dr. Kamara allegedly referred to himself as the “President-elect of Sierra Leone” and claimed he was awaiting to assume power.
The police further stated that Dr. Kamara was seen in other recordings endorsing himself as the President-elect, a claim they believe requires clarification.
“In respect of these, you are invited to report to the Cyber Investigations Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters to clarify these issues on Tuesday, 4th February 2025, at 14:00 hours,” reads a letter addressed to Dr. Kamara.
The letter, signed by a senior officer, indicates that the police have compiled a series of recordings from various locations and that Dr. Kamara’s statements warrant further inquiry.
There has been no official response from Dr. Kamara or the APC regarding the invitation. However, political analysts suggest that this move could heighten tensions between the opposition and the ruling government, especially in the wake of ongoing disputes over the 2023 elections.
