Freetown, June 7, 2024 – The Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) has issued a scam alert, warning customers and the general public of fraudulent activities misusing its reputable brand to deceive and defraud unsuspecting individuals.
The bank has expressed deep concern over the rise in scams where criminals impersonate SLCB representatives through phone calls, emails, text messages, and social media.
These scammers are highly skilled at crafting convincing communications, often promising financial opportunities, loan approvals, or prizes in exchange for personal or financial information.
SLCB is urging everyone to exercise caution and follow these safety measures:
1. Be Skeptical: Approach unsolicited communications claiming to be from SLCB with caution. If an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is.
2. Verify the Source: Independently confirm the identity of anyone claiming to represent SLCB by contacting the bank through official channels. Avoid using contact information provided by potential scammers.
3. Protect Personal Information: Do not share sensitive information, such as account numbers, PINs, or passwords, over the phone or online unless you are certain of the recipient’s authenticity.
4. Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately report any suspicious activity or suspected scams involving SLCB to local law enforcement and notify the bank.
SLCB is committed to the safety and security of its customers and the public. The bank is working closely with law enforcement to combat these fraudulent activities.
SLCB emphasizes that it will never ask for personal or financial information through unsolicited communications and does not participate in any fraudulent schemes.
For more information or to report a suspected scam, contact SLCB’s Customer Service Department at +232-79-211-121 or +232-88-225-225, or the Corporate Secretariat at +232-78-645-774 or +232-79-950-182.
