The proceedings in the case of the State versus Alpha Sheriff ( Sheriff APC) and others were brought before Justice Adrian Fisher at High Court Number Two yesterday for closing arguments.
It may be remembered that Alpha Sheriff (Sheriff APC) was apprehended last year, just a few months before the June 24 election, and subsequently charged along with his associates for the illegal possession of firearms and operating a security company without the necessary license.
Nearly a year since Alpha Sheriff’s detention, the case has now reached the stage of closing arguments.
Today, esteemed Counsel for Alpha Sheriff, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, delivered a compelling closing statement before Justice Fisher, asserting that the Prosecution has failed to substantiate its case. As a result, it was argued that Sheriff APC should be acquitted and discharged.
Following Counsel Kamara’s persuasive arguments, the proceedings were adjourned. It is anticipated that the matter will soon be revisited for a verdict, wherein Sheriff APC may either be acquitted or sentenced for the offence of operating a security company without a license.
Notably, considering that he has already served the maximum sentence of one year for the illegal possession of firearms.
