Samura Kamara, the leader and former presidential candidate of Sierra Leone’s All People’s Congress (APC), has conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Liberia’s recently inaugurated President, Joseph Boakai.
Kamara declared, “Hearty Congratulations to Your Excellency President Joseph Boakai, on your inauguration today, Monday, 22nd January, 2024, as the 26th President of Liberia. Your ascension marks a solid continuation of a promising democratic era for Liberia and inspires hope across our borders.”
Reflecting on his own political journey, having contested as the APC’s presidential candidate in Sierra Leone’s 2018 and 2023 elections, Kamara expressed eagerness to collaborate for regional prosperity and unity.
He stated, “Here’s to a future built on shared vision and mutual respect. May the Almighty God grant you the wisdom, courage, and good health to lead a country that is now an enviable example in our subregion,” in a message shared on social media.
Boakai’s inauguration as the 26th President of Liberia follows his triumph in the November 2023 runoff election, where he secured victory over former President George Weah.
At the age of 79, President Boakai faces the significant challenges of addressing poverty and corruption, having secured 50.64 percent of the votes in the runoff poll.
