In a significant stride toward strengthening the national response to the Mpox outbreak, the Government of Sierra Leone through, the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Agency, has received an additional 75,000 doses of Mpox vaccines.
The latest shipment, generously donated by the Democratic Republic of Congo and facilitated by the World Health Organization, underscores a powerful gesture of regional solidarity in combating public health emergencies.
This new consignment brings the total number of Mpox vaccine doses received by Sierra Leone to over 153,000, with previous contributions from the United Arab Emirates, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and now, the DR Congo. These donations form part of a coordinated international effort to curb the spread of Mpox across West Africa and ensure equitable access to essential, life-saving vaccines.
“This is another meaningful step forward in our collective fight against Mpox,” said a representative from the Ministry of Health. “We remain deeply grateful to our international partners, especially the government and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for their continued support and unwavering solidarity.”
The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) Pillar will spearhead the rollout and distribution of the vaccines nationwide, ensuring that the most vulnerable and at-risk populations are prioritized These vaccines, known for their safety and effectiveness, play a vital role in reducing transmission, protecting healthcare workers, and preventing severe disease outcomes.
