Freetown, 19 January 2026 — The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has officially unveiled its newly acquired Regimental Brass Band, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the Force’s image in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu.
This development signifies a step towards transforming the police from a traditional force into a service-oriented institution.
The unveiling ceremony was held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom and was attended by senior police officers and invited guests.
In his keynote address, IGP William Fayia Sellu described the occasion as another historic milestone in the development of the Sierra Leone Police, emphasising that the SLP Brass Band remains a source of pride for the nation.
He noted that the decision to procure a new brass band was a bold move, especially at a time when the Force has several other pressing projects to undertake.
The IGP expressed hope that the instruments will be handled with care and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that collective effort is essential to progress.
He encouraged personnel to seize every opportunity to effect positive change wherever they serve.
IGP Sellu also urged band members to perform music that is pleasant, professional, and uplifting, while emphasising the importance of ongoing training and mentorship to build capacity within the band.
He described it as a personal honour to unveil the new brass band instruments, noting that the SLP had relied on outdated equipment for many years.
In his remarks, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Mr Sahr Yomba Senesi, stated that the unveiling of the new brass band marked yet another milestone for the SLP.
He reiterated that IGP Sellu’s vision is to transform the SLP into a modern, professional, and well-equipped security organisation, adding that this initiative forms part of the IGP’s wide-ranging reforms, with more positive developments anticipated.
The highlight of the event was the inspection of the newly procured instruments. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by ACP Esther Saffa, Director of Community Relations Affairs.
