A total of thirteen (13) personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), comprising ten (10) males and three (3) females, are set to be deployed to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on 28 and 30 March 2026.
The officers will join other international peacekeepers in supporting efforts to maintain peace, security and stability in South Sudan under the UN mandate.
On Friday, 27 March 2026, the team received a formal briefing from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr William Fayia Sellu. In his address, the Police Chief admonished the officers to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, discipline and integrity throughout their mission.
IGP Sellu emphasised that the officers would not only be representing the Sierra Leone Police but also the nation as a whole on the international stage.
He reminded them of the commendable track record established by previous Sierra Leonean peacekeepers, who have consistently upheld the country’s reputation and flown the green, white and blue flag with pride.
He further encouraged the contingent to build on this legacy by exhibiting exemplary conduct and fostering positive relationships with colleagues from other nations, as well as with the local population in South Sudan.
The deployment forms part of Sierra Leone’s continued contribution to global peacekeeping efforts and reinforces the country’s commitment to international peace and security.
