Freetown – Sierra Leonean songstress Star Zee has fired back at online critics who accused her of orchestrating an assault on a young driver following a near-fatal accident involving her vehicle over the weekend.
In a lengthy and emotional statement released Sunday, the artist directly addressed the backlash that erupted after she posted a video showing the chaotic aftermath of the collision, during which she openly accused the other driver of reckless overtaking and driving under the influence.
Star Zee rejected claims that the driver was beaten, insisting she was the one who shielded him from harm.
“People claimed we beat the driver. That is a complete lie,” she wrote. “It was ME, Star Zee, who called for his security. I was the one holding the driver and protecting him because an angry crowd had already surrounded him. Watch the video again—he was never touched, never manhandled. Look at his clothes; he was sitting comfortably.”
The singer accused social media users of deliberately distorting the truth and turning the driver into a victim simply because she shared her own footage.
“After overtaking several cars recklessly and nearly killing us all, suddenly the person who caused the accident becomes the ‘victim’ because I posted on my official page. Please justify that,” she challenged.
She further slammed the rush to judgment that has become common online in Sierra Leone: “We judge too quickly. We jump to conclusions without knowing what really happened. Today it’s me; tomorrow it could be you or someone you love. Yet people who weren’t even there are online speaking with full confidence, creating their own versions.”
Star Zee didn’t hold back on the double standards she believes critics are applying: “Some of you shouting today—if this had happened to YOU, your reaction would’ve been completely different. The narrative you’re pushing against me is not the narrative you would ever accept for yourself.”
While expressing pain over injuries sustained by her husband Mystik, a friend who needed stitches, and her own bruises and trauma, she reiterated that the other party admitted fault on the spot and begged for forgiveness.
To those spreading what she called fabricated stories, her message was clear: “Some social media handlers need to stop this. You cannot sit behind your phone and make up stories about situations you never witnessed.”
