Freetown – Sierra Leonean international midfielder Momoh Ibrahim Kamara has completed a dream move to Europe.
The 20-year-old has signed with Swedish Allsvenskan side IF Elfsborg on a season-long loan from Minnesota United FC (MNUFC2) for the remainder of the 2026 season.
The deal includes an option for Elfsborg to make the transfer permanent at the end of the campaign, giving our young talent a real chance to establish himself in European football.
Born on 6 May 2005 in Kambia Town, Kamara was raised in the East End of Freetown. He stands at about 1.70–1.73m and is known for his excellent technique, vision, creativity in midfield, and powerful long-range shots. The left-footed player can operate as an attacking midfielder, right winger, or central midfielder.
Kamara’s Journey So Far
He started his career with Mattia Football Club in Sierra Leone, had a short spell with Diamond Stars, and even gained experience in Portugal with Leixões SC B before returning home. His impressive performances earned him a move to Minnesota United’s reserve team in 2025, where he has been shining in MLS Next Pro, scoring notable goals including some absolute screamers from distance.
On the international stage, Kamara has represented the Sierra Leone Senior National Team (Leone Stars) and starred for the U20 side, including during the U20 AFCON qualifiers and tournaments.
What This Means for Kamara and Sierra Leone
For Kamara, this loan move is a massive opportunity to gain regular first-team football in a competitive European league. Playing in the Swedish Allsvenskan will help him develop further, improve his tactical awareness, and increase his chances of becoming a regular in the Leone Stars senior squad.
IF Elfsborg, founded in 1904 and based in Borås, is a historic Swedish club with six Allsvenskan titles to their name (the last in 2012). They are known for giving young players opportunities and competing at a high level. Adding Kamara’s energy and attacking flair will strengthen their squad as they push in the 2026 season.
Minnesota United keeps the player’s registration, but Elfsborg now has the chance to buy him outright if he performs well.
Kamara is reported to be very excited about the move, saying he is happy to join such a big club and ready to work hard to prove himself in Scandinavia.
This transfer continues the growing success story of Sierra Leonean talents making their way to European leagues, a proud moment for all Leone Stars fans back home!
