Freetown, Sierra Leone – Finance Minister Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura visited Freetown International Airport in Lungi on March 26, 2026, to witness the arrival of key construction materials for the $124 million Congress Centre, Hotel, and Presidential Villas project.
The Minister inspected the construction site and met with contractors from FB Group. The company assured him they are committed to completing the work on schedule.
Construction is moving day and night to meet the deadline for the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit in June 2026.
This flagship project of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio aims to improve infrastructure in Lungi, strengthen Sierra Leone’s ability to host major international events, and boost tourism, investment, and diplomacy.
The $124 million Congress Centre will feature a large convention hall for high-level meetings and facilities for many delegates. An adjoining hotel and Presidential Villas will complete the modern complex near the international airport.

Parliament approved the agreements in February 2026. The government targets completion of the main parts within six to nine months.
FB Group, which also worked on the airport upgrade, is handling the project through a public-private partnership. Officials say it will create a lasting legacy for the country.
