Magistrate Hadiru Daboh handed down sentences on Friday, August 18, 2023, to Idrissa Andrew Koroma, Issa Momoh Turay, and five co-conspirators, all found guilty of conspiracy and larceny. Both Koroma and Turay were police personnel attached to Sierra Leone’s Operational Support Division.
The group, which also included Mohamed Yansaneh, Abdul Abu Bangura, Sheku Mansaray, Hassan Kamara, and Paul Kamara, underwent trial before Magistrate Daboh at Ross Road Court No 3. They were charged with crimes of conspiracy and larceny, in violation of Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the police charge sheet, the accused individuals colluded on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Jolaks Manufacturing Company located in Wellington Industrial Estate, Freetown. They conspired to steal numerous gallons of oil valued at NLe 594,000, belonging to Jolaks Manufacturing Company.
Magistrate Daboh’s ruling underscored the consistency in the testimonies provided by witnesses. He asserted that the evidence overwhelmingly pointed to the guilt of all the accused parties.
Consequently, he declared the accused individuals guilty of the charged offenses.
Subsequently, the first through sixth accused persons were each sentenced to four years in prison, to be served consecutively.
As for the seventh accused, Hassan Kamara, he was credited with time already spent in detention and was released immediately. However, the third accused, Mohamed Yansaneh, had evaded bail and was currently at large. Upon recapture, he will serve his sentence as determined by the court.
