The Chairman of the PI-CREF and team held their last meeting with Donors and Partners for this week at the World Bank Group Office.
There was in-depth discussions about energy sector reforms especially the urgent need for accelerating restructuring of EDSA,
private sector participation in the utility; and the need to raise the country’s ambitions for energy security including an intigrated renewable energy resource planning to unlock its full potential.
The team also discussed climate change vulnerabilities and building resilience, including natural capital accounting and climate finance, the ongoing climate change and growth report (CCGR), and the 2024 Climate and Forestry Summit. The deliberations also involved sector practice managers in Washington DC.
The WBG Country Manager, Mr. Abdu Muwonge, acknowledged the close alignment of the World Bank Group’s programs with the vision of President Bio to establish the Presidential Initiative combining the critical issues of climate change, renewable energy and food security. He and his colleagues expressed a strong desire collaborate with PI-CREF to support ministers to actualize key performance targets in the relevant sectors. The WBG will participate in the forthcoming climate and energy dialogue next week and link it’s outcomes with the 2024 Energy Round Table.
They also agreed to meet regularly, enhance future collaboration, and support sector ministries achieve policy coherence and effective delivery.
