Freetown, October 21, 2023 – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has issued a press statement after the apprehension of Nigerian national, Best Benjamin Nnanyereugo, following a request from the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Nigeria.
The arrest took place on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Leads Hotel, situated in the Aberdeen area of Freetown.
Best Benjamin Nnanyereugo is currently in police custody and is a declared wanted person in Nigeria. He has been pursued by the Nigerian police for allegedly killing his 21-year-old girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion, before fleeing the country.
The Sierra Leone Police leadership has announced that the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Sierra Leone is working closely with the Attorney General’s Office to facilitate his extradition to Nigeria. This extradition is being pursued so that Nnanyereugo can face justice for the alleged crimes he is accused of committing.
Lagos Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin also confirmed Nnanyereugo’s arrest.
“He was arrested by the Sierra Leonan Police Force and we are working on extraditing him to Nigeria,” he said.
On October 10 the Lagos State Police Command declared the 26-year-old Benjamin Best Nnanyereugo wanted over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion.
The Police had said Nnanyereugo was suspected to have murdered his girlfriend, 21-year-old Augusta Onuwabhagbe Osedion, on July 13, 2023 in his Oral Estate, Ajah home, in Lagos State.
