Freetown, March 19, 2025 – The National Pentecostal Church has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of two nursery pupils from the National Pentecostal Pre-School.
The heartbreaking incident, which occurred late Tuesday, March 18, has left the church community in mourning.
In an official statement, the church described the loss as “devastating” and assured the public that they are fully cooperating with the Sierra Leone Police as investigations are underway.
“We want to assure the general public that the matter is currently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police,” the statement read. “The Church is fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure that all necessary inquiries are conducted swiftly and justly.”
The Church leadership also urged members and the wider community to remain calm and avoid speculation as they await the outcome of the investigation.
“As we await the outcome of the investigation, we urge every member of the Church and the wider community to remain calm, patient, and united in prayers,” the statement continued. “We also encourage all to refrain from speculation, avoid making comments on social media, and allow the law enforcement agencies to do their work.”
The church extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, describing the loss as “an unimaginable tragedy” for both the affected families and the entire congregation.
“The sudden passing of these innocent children is an unimaginable loss, not only to their families but also to the entire National Pentecostal Mission community,” the church said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they endure this profound grief.”
As the church community grieves, they are turning to their faith for strength.
“In this time of mourning, we find strength in God’s Word and the power of collective prayer,” the statement concluded. “Let us continue to uplift the grieving families in our prayers and seek divine comfort and justice.”
