The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is a standardized regional exam administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). It is taken annually by final-year secondary school students in English-speaking West African countries, including Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, and Liberia.
The exam is a crucial requirement for students seeking admission into universities and other higher institutions of learning. It tests candidates in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, and Science, alongside electives in arts, social sciences, and technical fields.
In Sierra Leone, WASSCE plays a central role in shaping the educational and career prospects of young people. The results often spark nationwide attention, as they serve as a benchmark for both student performance and the state of the education system.
This year’s release comes amid growing public interest in education reforms, with the government continuing its flagship Free Quality School Education (FQSE) program, which aims to expand access and improve outcomes across all levels of learning.
