In a gesture of appreciation, Guinea’s Prime Minister, Bernard Goumou, bestowed prestigious medals and certificates upon Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, and a team of Sierra Leonean doctors.
The commendation comes in recognition of Sierra Leone’s crucial support following the tragic fire incident at Conakry’s main fuel depot last year.
Juldeh Jalloh, receiving the Grand Officier de L’ordre National du Kolatier de la République de Guinée, expressed gratitude, stating, “I am delighted to receive this distinguished award, which is the highest commendation given to foreigners. It also represents Sierra Leone’s solidarity and fraternity to a sister country.”
The ceremony, held at the Foreign Service Academy in Freetown, also marked the agreement to supply fuel to Guinea.
The Sierra Leonean delegation, led by Prime Minister Goumou, visited Sierra Leone to personally thank President Julius Maada Bio and commend the 15 Sierra Leoneans, including Jalloh, for their efforts.
Jalloh highlighted the comprehensive support provided, including delivering medical supplies, deploying medical staff, and planning access to petroleum products.
Sierra Leone’s rapid response showcased the importance of regional cooperation and solidarity during crises.
The Guinea Prime Minister also honored Sierra Leonean doctors dispatched to Conakry for providing essential medical aid to the victims of the devastating explosion and fire.
The ceremony not only celebrates Sierra Leone’s dedication but reinforces the bond of solidarity between the two West African nations.
24 people reported dead and another 454 were injured after a blast rocked the state oil company’s main depot on December 18 in Guinea’s capital.
