The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has secured a conviction against Mohamed Koroma of Thoronka Lane, Makeni, for academic malpractice. The verdict was handed down by Justice Abubakarr Sannoh at the High Court of Sierra Leone in Makeni.
Koroma was found guilty of attempting to impersonate a candidate during the November/December 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). According to court records, on 18th November 2024, he was caught sitting the Agricultural Science III paper on behalf of Kelfala Yusif Koroma, a registered WASSCE candidate.
Following his guilty plea to one count of academic malpractice, in violation of Section 128(3) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 as amended in 2019, the court sentenced him to pay a fine of Le50,000 or face five years in prison.
Justice Sannoh ordered an immediate payment of Le20,000, with the remaining Le30,000 to be paid over the next two years.
In a statement, the ACC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on examination fraud. “This conviction sends a strong signal that academic malpractice will not be tolerated,” said Abubakarr Turay, Director of Public Education and Outreach at the ACC. “We remain committed to tackling all forms of corruption in Sierra Leone, including those that compromise the integrity of our educational system.”
