Yenegoa, Nigeria – Former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, played a pivotal role as a participant at the GJF Democracy Dialogue held in Yenegoa, Nigeria on Friday.
The event, considered the flagship program of the foundation, brought together influential figures from across Africa to address the challenges facing democracy and seek solutions to the continent’s development issues.
Under the theme of the dialogue, the emphasis was placed on the need for participants to broaden their perspective of democracy, extending it beyond mere elections. The participants critically analyzed the nature of elections and delved into the post-election governance dynamics.
In the aftermath of the event, Koroma shared his insights, stating, “The GJF Democracy Dialogue in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, delves into the pillars of prosperity: Democracy, development, and good governance.”
He also stressed the importance of preserving democracy despite setbacks. “Despite setbacks, we must persevere,” he asserted.
Koroma expressed his gratitude to Goodluck Jonathan, the GEJ Foundation, and FCM Jallow for their unwavering commitment. He highlighted that democracy is an ongoing journey rather than a final destination.

Their tireless efforts resonate deeply as we collectively strive for a stable and prosperous future. Despite recent setbacks, we must not give up hope. We must never forget that democracy is a journey and not a destination,” the former President of Sierra Leone emphasized.
