Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has raised concerns following the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) decision to withhold the results of more than 25,000 candidates from the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The unexpected action has left thousands of students and their families in suspense regarding their academic futures.
In an effort to address the situation, the Ministry announced that the Sierra Leone Examination Committee will meet on November 5 and 6, 2024, to thoroughly review each instance of withheld results.
The committee, chaired by Chief Education Officer Professor Yatta Kanu, is expected to investigate the reasons behind the hold-up and to outline steps for a fair resolution.
The Ministry emphasized the importance of this meeting, underscoring its commitment to transparency and fairness in the examination process. By addressing each case individually, the committee aims to ensure that no candidate is unfairly affected by administrative issues.
Acknowledging the impact that delayed results can have on students’ academic plans, the Ministry urged affected candidates, parents, and school authorities to remain patient.
Updates from the examination committee meeting will be shared promptly as they become available, with the Ministry aiming for a swift resolution to minimize disruption to students’ educational paths.
