The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has issued a statement regarding a power outage that occurred on Friday, 22nd November, 2024, during a scheduled radio interview with Her Excellency, the First Lady, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, at Top Radio Station in Kenema.
The interview, which was set to begin at 7:30 PM, was part of a series of engagements aimed at advancing national development initiatives.
“Kenema City is known for its reliable and consistent electricity supply, and we had ensured that special attention was given to the Hanga Feeder, which powers the radio station,” said EDSA management in their statement.
However, during the interview, an unexpected incident occurred when the transformer feeding the radio station at IDA blew a low voltage fuse, causing a temporary power outage.
“We acted swiftly as the station switched to its backup generator,” the statement continued. “Our standby technical team responded promptly, carrying out repairs that lasted only 10 minutes before power was fully restored.”
EDSA has since extended its sincerest apologies to Dr. Bio for the disruption.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused Her Excellency and assure the public that, once the Bo/Kenema Rehabilitation and Expansion Project is completed, the network will be more stable, with fewer interruptions,” the statement added.
The authority also took the opportunity to commend the First Lady for her ongoing work in promoting girl-child education, fighting gender-based violence, and supporting other developmental initiatives.
“Her relentless efforts continue to reshape our country’s future,” EDSA concluded.
