In a recent press statement issued today, the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has disclosed vital information regarding the upcoming Paramount Chief Members of Parliament (PCMP) elections in Pujehun and Kenema districts.
The announcement comes following vacancies in the PCMP seats for the respective districts due to the untimely demise of two esteemed members.
According to the ECS, the vacancies arose from the sudden passing of PCMP PC Boima Victor Sidee Kebbie III of Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun district, on Sunday, 14th August 2023, and PCMP PC Foday Steven Kpakra-Faba of Dodo Chiefdom, Kenema district, on Monday, 23rd October 2023.
The commission expressed its condolences, stating, “May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
Citing constitutional provisions and electoral laws, the ECS outlined the following key dates for the conduct of the PCMP bye-elections:
1. Nomination of Candidates: March 20th to 21st, 2024
2. Polling and Counting: April 20th, 2024
These dates mark crucial milestones in the electoral process, ensuring a transparent and timely procedure for the selection of new representatives in the affected districts.
The ECS urged the public to take note of the specified dates and participate actively in the democratic process.
