Bo, Sierra Leone – Popular Sierra Leonean rapper Alhaji Amadu Bah, widely known by his stage names Boss LAJ, has been arrested after the Bo Magistrate Court issued a bench warrant for his failure to appear in court.
The artist, celebrated for hits like “Money Na Bank” and recognized as a self-styled Peace Ambassador, faces allegations of making insulting and abusive remarks against Thomas Baio, the Mayor of Kenema City, during a live performance in Bo. Mayor Baio personally confirmed the incident in court proceedings.
According to reports, the bench warrant was issued by Magistrate Solomon James Brima at Bo Magistrate Court No. 1 after LAJ and co-accused Ibrahim Koroma (also known as Prezo) did not appear for a scheduled hearing on Friday, March 27, 2026.
The case stems from the rapper’s on-stage comments, which were described as vulgar and indecent, and which quickly circulated on social media.
LAJ’s representatives and lawyer have challenged aspects of the court process, with claims that the artist was not properly served with court documents. LAJ himself has publicly denied receiving formal notification to appear. Despite this, the court proceeded to issue the warrant, leading to his arrest and remand.
Background of the Dispute
The controversy reportedly reignited during a recent performance in Bo when LAJ directed harsh remarks at Mayor Thomas Baio. The mayor has strongly condemned the insults, viewing them as an attack not only on his person but on the office he represents. In response to the incident, other local leaders have taken action: for instance, the Mayor of Koidu New Sembehun City, Komba Mathew Sam, announced a ban on LAJ’s public performances in Koidu until a formal apology or resolution is reached.
This is not the first time King Boss LA has faced legal issues. The artist has a history of high-profile court cases, including a 2023 conviction and sentencing to nine years’ imprisonment by High Court Justice Adrian Fisher on separate charges (though details of prior matters vary in public reports). He remains a polarizing yet influential figure in Sierra Leone’s music scene, known for his street-oriented lyrics, youth empowerment themes, and consistent output without relocating abroad.
Public Reaction and Context
The case has sparked intense debate on social media and in local communities. Supporters of Mayor Baio, particularly in Kenema, have rallied behind him, while some fans of LAJ question the judicial process and argue that the remarks were part of artistic expression or performance banter. Others criticize the artist for behavior they say undermines his Peace Ambassador status and sets a poor example for young fans.
Authorities have not yet released an official police statement on the arrest details.
