The National Executive of Sierra Leone’smain opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), in conjunction with the Western Region and District Executives, has announced the relaunch of its Membership Registration Drive, beginning Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
This initiative marks a significant step towards updating and streamlining the party’s membership database.
The reactivation of the registration process follows a period of suspension instituted by the current National Executive. This pause was necessary due to several issues, including inconsistencies in the membership database, temporary registrations by the Interim Transition Governance Committee, duplicated membership numbers, a backlog of unprocessed applications, and the circulation of counterfeit membership cards.
To address these concerns, the APC Secretariat has developed a new software system from scratch, which will support membership registration, facilitate the official party website, and manage bulk communications.
This system has been refined through consultations with various party stakeholders, including national, regional, and district leaders, as well as former officeholders and representatives from affiliated groups.
The verification and registration of members will begin on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, with a formal launch event at the APC Headquarters in Freetown at 12 PM. Similar events will be held across districts, with all party members and executives expected to attend.
Registration and Verification Process:
1. Executive Members: Verification and re-registration will occur at all organizational levels, including polling centers, wards, constituencies, districts, regions, and the diaspora. This process is expected to last 90 days.
2. Existing Members: Current members must physically present themselves for verification within one year. Failure to do so will result in removal from the membership register. Latecomers will be considered new members.
3. New Members: Applications for new membership will be ongoing, subject to constitutional requirements and party guarantees.
Membership Categories:
1. Honorary Foundation Member: Reserved for top national figures, including former Presidents and National Chairpersons.
2. Patron Member: Open to any Sierra Leonean with annual subscription. MPs, Mayors, and Chairpersons automatically qualify.
3. Honorary Executive Member: Available to Sierra Leoneans with annual subscription. Councillors automatically qualify.
4. Ordinary Member: Open to any Sierra Leonean with annual subscription.
5. Associate Membership: For registered organizations, with details to be finalized by the National Secretariat and NAC.
Fees:
– Honorary Foundation Member: Le. 50,000
– Patron Member: Application – Le. 50,000; Monthly Dues – Le. 1,000
– Honorary Executive Member: Application – Le. 20,000; Monthly Dues – Le. 500
– Ordinary Member: Application – Le. 10,000; Monthly Dues – Le. 200
Note: Fees for Diaspora members will be determined later.
